About me

If you like dancing, playing the piano and you love dogs, you’ve reached the right person. I’m Morgane and I just turned 17 years old, I’m in my fifth year of high school and I study Human sciences. Spending a lot of time with my friends and family is something I need in my life, I have 2 brothers and 1 sister, I’m very close to them. If I’m not dancing or doing something with my dog, you can find me behind the piano. I played the saxophone before but I had to stop for my health, I still play it sometimes because I still want to do something with music. But I’m lucky that we also have a piano at home so right now I’m trying to learn how to play the piano. I dance in a competition team, 2 times a month we compete and do our best to win. Our team is called Invincible and we train 2 times a week. In total there are 8 competition teams at our dance school.

Did you know

1. An eating habit that changed

In our life, where we practice modern-day cooking, we don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen anymore. We get more and more microwave meals which means that we have more time for other things.

But as you can see this was not the case in 1930. Convenience food back then, stood for food in tins, so they could eat vegetables and fruits out of the season. https://www.highspeedtraining.co.uk/hub/changes-in-eating-habits/

2. Allergies

This is another thing that changed over the years throughout our food. Right now, allergies are very common, but if we go back in time a lot of people weren’t even aware that allergies existed. Our grand-parents were used to eating food that is not processed, unnatural and chemical-filled. They had a ‘cleaner’ lifestyle than we do. We eat less fruit, vegetables and don’t do as much activity. All of this may weaken our immune system. Which means that we can easily suffer from food allergies.

3. Fingered citron

The fingered citron is also known as the Buddha’s hand. The fruit is special because it comes in different shapes, you have the ‘open-hand types’ and the ‘closed-hand types’. The fruit is used in Japan, China and Malaysia as a perfume (for personal items and for perfuming rooms). https://www.funcage.com/blog/top-10-strange-and-forgotten-fruits/

4. Chinese artichoke

Chinese artichoke is also known as crosne or knotroot. It has a flavour which is similar to salsify or artichoke. Originally, it’s from China. You can eat it raw, pickled, dried or cooked. But most of the time it’s eaten boiled, steamed, with a white sauce. It’s also used in traditional Chinese Medicines to treat colds and pneumonia. https://www.oldcook.com/en/history-vegetables_forgotten

5. Cooking on the hearth

We have already talked about eating habits that changed, allergies and forgotten vegetables. But what about our cooking techniques. Did they change throughout the years? The answer is yes. When we talk about roast meats, we automatically think that you need to cook it in an oven. But when we go a little bit back in time, it meant something different. Cooking meats on a hearth in front of an open fire was very popular. The ‘hearth’ was a really important part of a home. It used to be the central part and the most important feature. Right now, that way of cooking is not ‘modern’ anymore and it went out of style.

My favourite dish

Since I turned 9 or so the tradition began. Ever since we eat my mom’s spaghetti on my birthday. She makes it the best way, she adds those big chunks of meat and a double dose of vegetables. It’s my favourite dish because it brings up some of my best memories. We have already celebrated my birthday in another country and we still ate spaghetti. If I needed to make it, I would follow this recipe and add some of my mom’s secret ingredients.

  1. Combine ground beef, onion, garlic, and green pepper in a large saucepan. Cook and stir until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain grease.
  2. Stir diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste into the pan. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer spaghetti sauce for 1 hour. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/158140/spaghetti-sauce-with-ground-beef/

My favourite restaurant

My favourite restaurant is in Hasselt, it’s called Botanique. The first time I went to the restaurant, I only drank something. It was served very uniquely and the tea was freshly made.  But then I saw the burgers that the people right next to me got and it looked delicious. So the next time I went I ordered one and it tasted incredible. Now it’s my favourite restaurant because their dishes are always very creative and interesting. You can’t get them everywhere.

  • Review: I taught the burgers were very bad, the meat was still raw. And it was not worth their money. The service was very friendly but the burger was still one of the worst burgers I ever ate.
  • I think it’s of ourse not okay to have raw meat between your burger, but I think if they would have said it to the staff, they would have given them a new one. As he said, the service was very friendly. So they would have handled it perfectly. Then he could have enjoyed the wonderful burgers they create.
